Wilton
Norman E. Barbeau, 81, passed away at Saratoga Hospital on July 27, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
Norman was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Ware, MA. He was the son of Joseph E. and Florianne Vanasse Barbeau. He graduated from Gardner High School in Gardner, MA in 1947. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for two years and went on to earn a BS degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Massachusetts. He completed graduate studies in management and computer science at Case Western Reserve, RPI and Union College.
Norman retired from Hanson Industries, Native Textiles Division in 1990, where he served as Director of Engineering. He held prior manufacturing assignments with Albany International in Albany, NY, and E. I. DuPont de Nemours in Wilmington, DE and Cleveland, OH.
A long time member of the Church of Our Lady of Annunciation, Queensbury, Norm served as an usher, a member of Parish Council, and active choir member. He served as President and board member of Tri-County United Way, President and charter member of Queensbury Kiwanis Club, National Treasurer and board member of National Society for Autistic Children. Additionally he served as board member of United Cerebral Palsy Association of the Tri-Counties, and board member and founding member of the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra. He played violin for 12 years with the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra, eight years with South Florida's Treasure Coast Symphony and five years with the Indian River Pops Orchestra. He was also a frequent participant in musical theatre pit orchestras and church ensembles in Cleveland, South Florida and the Glens Falls area.
Norm's love of music began at the age of seven, with violin lessons. He enjoyed spending time and playing games with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He loved ballroom dancing, bowling, playing bridge, poker, and many other card games. Norm was always intrigued with the latest computer technology. Holidays and time with his family were his greatest joys.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Mary H. Barbeau, of 53 years, brother Joseph S. Barbeau, and sisters Rachel M. Green and Loraine Letourneau. Norm is survived by his children, Ann E. Bentzen and her husband Karl of Melrose, Thomas E. Barbeau of Moreau, and Mary Lea Raymond and her husband Jeffrey of Queensbury. Barbeau is also survived by his loving companion, Joan Wallace of Wilton, grandchildren Elisa Bruns and her husband Rich, Michael Bentzen and his wife Jeannine, Julie Bentzen, Tyler Raymond, and Christie Raymond. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be celebrated 11am Friday at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, Aviation Rd Queensbury. Right of committal will be Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at Singleton- Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Rd Queensbury.
