Biography
Mary Helen Oliver
Schenectady - Mary Helen (nee: Clark) Oliver was born on November 28, 1923, one of five siblings in Charlotte, NC to the late Bishop Lonnie C. Clark and Obie Cannon. She entered eternal rest on July 27, 2010 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
Mary was a longtime employee of Union College, Sunnyview Hospital and YMCA Daycare at Yates Village. She was also a licensed cosmetologist and entrepreneur, owning her own beauty salon. Mary had a sincere love of God and man that drew her to become a Jehovah's Witness. She lived her life as a Witness until God called her home. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who always wore a smile on her face.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mr. George Oliver, her sister, Mrs. Sarah Mae Jones and three daughters, Ms. Selema Mae Buchanan, Ms. Nancy Jean Guy and Ms. Izella Jane Guy.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory three siblings; Mr. Collins (Winirby) Bryce and Mr. Lonnie Clark, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, and Mrs. Polly (William) Buie of Glen Allen, VA; four daughters, Parx Samella (King) Williams of Boston, MA, Ogeechee Estella (Bennie) Nelson, Mary Ann Guy and Sarah Marie (Neil) Stanley, all of Schenectady, NY. She also leaves to cherish with fond memories, 13 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mary Helen Oliver will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 Noon at Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State St., Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the funeral home prior to the service.
