George P. Hakes
Gloversville -
George P. Hakes, 80, of Gloversville, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born in Groton, NY on August 16, 1929, he was the son of the late George S. and Dora (nee: Batsford) Hakes. He lived for over 23 years in Broadalbin and was a member of Broadalbin Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sexton. He then moved to Gloversville where he lived for over the past 25 years.
He was employed as a printer for Amsterdam Printing until going to work for The Leader Herald in Gloversville. Later, he went to work for Fulton County, as the Printing Supervisor, and served for over 25 years, retiring in 1994.
George had an appreciation for photography and developing his own photographs. In his free time, he had a passion for drawing and was a cartoonist. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Married on September 10, 1948, George is survived by his wife, June V. (nee: Hassett) Hakes. He is also survived by his children, Georgia Lee Hakes of Sprakers, Stephen (Nancy) Hakes of Glenville, Philip (Barbara) Hakes of Valatie, NY and Gregory Hakes of Johnstown, NY; his sister, Elizabeth Preston of West Seneca, NY; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his twin daughters, Sharon Lou and Karen Joyce Hakes.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at The White Funeral Home, 264 North Ballston Ave., Scotia. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
