Biography
Garland Farmer Jr., 81, of Schenectady, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Ellis Hospital, after a brief illness. Garland was born in Semora, North Carolina on June 6, 1928 to the late Garland Farmer Sr. and Louise Cunningham-Brown. He was affectionately known as "Farmer" or "June." "Farmer" was employed with Tobin First Prize Meat Packing Company in Albany, NY until his retirement. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he served as a member of the trustee board, usher board and a volunteer for the Summer Lunch Program. He also was a volunteer with the Carver Community Center. "Farmer" was known to be an impeccable dresser and loved to dance. Survivors include his wife, Ann; three daughters, Regina Goodbee of Albany, Cynthia Farmer of Schenectady, and Linda Farmer of Silver Springs, MD; a step-son Michael Elem, of Chicago IL; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Malcolm Cunningham and dear friend, Delores Woodard. Garland was predeceased by his stepson, Perry Elem. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, 809 Strong St., Schenectady. Funeral services will immediately follow. The interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bethel A.M.E. Church in memory of Garland.
