Biography
Queensbury - Robert E. Havens, 86, of Queensbury passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Glens Falls Hospital following a short illness.
He was born June 2, 1923 in Glens Falls, the son of the late Harold Havens and Alice (Hilts) Havens Heffron.
Robert was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1941.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls, where he was also involved with the Home School Association.
Robert was a US Army Veteran, serving in Europe during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Upon discharge he returned to the Glens Falls area and married Mary Rozell at St. Mary's Church on September 16, 1945 and went on to have two children.
Robert retired in 1985 from New York Telephone as a district manager. He also ran his own real estate business, Bob Havens Real Estate, for many years.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and B.P.O.E. Lodge 81, Glens Falls, served as Glens Falls City Assessor, and also served as chairman for the Glens Falls City Democratic Committee.
When Robert retired he enjoyed bowling, his daily walks and taking care of his yard. He took such pride in his yard that he received a Town of Queensbury Beautification Award for his hard work.
Robert was a man that devoted himself entirely to his family and his smile and kind words will surely be missed by all.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Daniel Havens, his brother, Donald Havens and his step-father, George Heffron.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Queensbury; his daughter Barbara Jones and her husband Richard of Queensbury; his grandchildren, Craig Jones of Queensbury, Shelly Alexander and her husband, William of Queensbury, Scott Havens and his partner, Andy of Kalamazoo, MI and Christopher Havens and his wife Tonya of Troy, NY. Also surviving Robert are his great grandchildren, Patrick and Tyler; his sister, Dorothy Robinson and her husband Jack of Bolton; his daughter-in-law, Sandra Havens of Mankato, MN and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Mary's Church, Warren Street, Glens Falls.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
No calling hours are scheduled.
