Biography

Stanley B. Hilliker, 88, of Schenectady, NY, passed away on Friday March 5, 2010, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born on March 31, 1921 in Greenville, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Lottie Bates Hilliker. Stanley was raised and educated in Gilboa, NY, until serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was sergeant 1st class serving with the Army in the European Theatre, where he was awarded three Bronze Stars for his heroic service during the war. After the war, Stanley moved to Middleburg and later Schenectady, working for General Electric in Schenectady for many years. He then went to work for 16 years at Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie and lastly Schaap Brothers Moving & Storage in Albany until his retirement. Stanley was a member of the VFW Post 357 Schenectady, where he served as building manager for over 20 years and Bingo chairman for the post. He was also a member of the American Legion of Schoharie. Survivors include two sons, Timothy (Sue) Hilliker of Connecticut, and Sam (Jennifer) Hilliker of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Gladys Mulbury of Cobleskill, NY; five grandchildren, Lance and Lisa Hilliker, and Joshua, Jeremy and Roman Hilliker; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including his niece, Marie Leguire, who was his caregiver for many years. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady followed by burial at 2 p.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, prior to the service at the funeral home.
