Biography
Queensbury - The family of Leo Floyd Flanders, 89, is saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Queensbury.
Born on June 19, 1920 in Fort Plain, NY, he was the son of Floyd and Mary Agnes (Ward) Flanders.
Leo served in WWII in the European Theater Operation as a Corporal. Upon return from the war, he was employed as Traffic Manager at Arkell & Smith in Canajoharie and Chase Bag in Hudson Falls. He later worked as a sales representative for various trucking companies in the Glens Falls area until his retirement.
He was also very active in many community service organizations. He was a member of the K of C in Fort Plain, VFW, Tri-County Traffic Club and Capital District Transportation Association.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Myra Brown Flanders and his wife of 55 years, Mary White Flanders, his brothers, Ward, Bernard, Harley and his sister Dorothy Rivenburgh.
Survivors include his son, James L. Flanders and his wife Rita of South Glens Falls; his daughters, Mary Anne Flanders of Queensbury and Therese Isham and her husband Blaine of Goodyear, AZ.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christine Rowley and her husband, William of Queensbury; Christopher Isham and his wife, April, of West Bolton, VT; Carlene Isham of Leominster, MA; and Ira Isham of Essex Junction, VT; Great grandchildren: Samuel and Elizabeth Rowley of Queensbury and Brianna Streeter of West Bolton, VT; his sister Jewel Primer of Fort Plain; his sister-in-law, Mabel Flanders of Fort Plain and Frances Flanders of Fort Plain and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at St. Mary's Church, Warren Street, Glens Falls.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.
The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations to St. Mary's Church Memorial Fund, 62 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre Activities Fund, The Stanton, Sherman Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804.
