Biography
On March 2, 2010, Viola Deas was called home to be with her Lord. Viola Deas, who was born on December 11, 1916, on Edisto Island, South Carolina, was 93 years old.
She was the daughter of the late Alex Gregory and late Clara Gregory on Edisto Island. She was one of 7 children born to this blessed union: The late Ruth Gadsden, the late Alex Gregory Jr., the late Joe Gregory, the late Frances Jackson, Johnny Gregory, the late Steven Jenkins, and Martha Jackson.
Viola came to know the Lord early in her life at the Calvary AME church. Upon moving to New York City, she moved her membership to the Greater St. Luke AME Church. At the time of her transition, she was a member of Bethel AME Church, Schenectady, New York, where she served on the Stewardess Board.
In 1933, she met and married Thomas Mungin Sr. This union was blessed with three children: Mrs. Isabella Brown, the Late Arthur Mungin and Thomas Mungin Jr. In 1949, she married Louis Deas.
Viola leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband, Louis Deas, 1 son in law, (the late Rev. Allen Brown), 3 daughters in laws, (Estell Mungin, Misao Mungin, and Juanita Mungin), 2 step children (Louis Jr. and Alma Moore), 19 Grand Children, 40 Great-Grand Children, 7 Great-Great Grand Children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Bethel AME Church, 540 Mumford Street, Schenectady, New York on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Calling hours are from 9am-11am. Services start at 11am.
