Biography

Queensbury:

Agnes, (Aggie) Bradfield, 86, of Queensbury, NY, died peacefully in her Zenas Drive home on March 2, 2010 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family and closest friends in the days preceding her death. Aggie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Over the course of her life, Aggie's outgoing and caring nature touched the hearts of many.

Born on October 19, 1923, Agnes was the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Denn of Albany, NY. She was raised in Albany and received her education there, graduating from the Vincentian Institute in 1941, having been selected by the votes of the student body for the highest honor in the gift of the school.

Early in her working career Aggie was employed by the State of New York and later by the New York Central Railroad where she met her future husband, Gordon Bradfield. The couple married and soon afterward started a family, with Aggie giving birth to a son, Gerald, in 1952. Compelled by a job transfer, Gordon moved the family to Croton-ln-Hudson, a small town in Westchester County, NY. Several years after the family settled in Westchester, Aggie embarked on a successful career at The Reader's Digest Corporation in Pleasantville, NY, working there until she retired in 1984. After retirement, Aggie and Gordon moved back to the upstate region to be closer to family, settling in Queensbury. Aggie's husband Gordon, passed away in 1987.

Aggie was a devout Catholic and contributed generously to her church. She had vivid childhood memories of the Great Depression, which undoubtedly influenced her frugal but generous outlook later on in life. She was a loving soul who was always eager to help others. Some of Aggie's favorite pastimes over the years included reading, painting, playing her guitar, and solving crossword puzzles. She also loved to bake especially during the holidays. Her grandmotherly manner will be sorely missed, but never forgotten by friends and family alike.

Besides her parents, Aggie is predeceased by her husband Gordon Bradfield, her brother Robert Denn, who died during World War II, stepdaughter Karen (Bo) White of Tennessee, and stepdaughter Arlene (Ken) Metzler of California.
