Blanche M. (Jowaiszas) Woodcock Byrnes
South Glens Falls:
Blanche M. (Jowaiszas) Byrnes, 77, of South Glens Falls passed away unexpectedly at Glens Falls Hospital on February 28, 2010.
Born on April 9, 1932 in Hadley, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Helen (Shatesky) Jowaiszas.
Blanche graduated in 1949 from Hadley-Luzerne School where she was Junior Prom Queen. She continued to be active in organizing annual reunions with her classmates and attended her 60th reunion in 2009.
She was employed as a seamstress at Cluett & Peabody Co. in Corinth for many years. She then went on to work at C.R. Bard in Queensbury retiring in 1994.
Blanche was an active member of the Moreau Senior Citizens, a former member of the Elks Lodge in Queensbury and a communicant of St. Michael's Church in South Glens Falls.
She enjoyed making porcelain dolls, toile painting, working in her flower gardens, going to garage sales, and making May baskets and bazaar crafts with her friends at the Senior Center. If asked though, she would tell you she mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Blanche was predeceased by her husbands, Donald H. Woodcock who she married in 1952 and John J. Byrnes who she married in 1969 and who died in 1992. Also her brother, Vincent Jowaiszas, Jr. and a step-son, Daniel Byrnes.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Woodcock and his wife, Lucinda, of Corinth and Mark Woodcock and his wife, Cynthia, of Gunnison, Colorado; two granddaughters, Jessica Beagle and her husband, Jack, of Corinth and Hillary Mason and her husband, Dennis, of Hadley; two great-granddaughters, Jerica Beagle of Corinth and Nadalie Mason of Hadley; three step-sons, John J. Byrnes and his wife, Sheila, of Greenwich, Michael Byrnes of South Carolina and Edward Byrnes and his wife, Linda, of Corinth; three step-daughters, Christine Williams and her husband, James, of Oregon, Dorothy Gatchell of South Glens Falls and Tracey Byrnes of Schenectady; nine step-grandchildren, a sister, Isabelle Benoit and her husband, Leon, of Gansevoort and Fort Meyers, Florida, a sister-in-law, Virginia Jowaiszas of Corinth, a close and dear friend, Sharon Lemery of Glens Falls and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at St. Michael's Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, NY. A Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
Following the committal, friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Blanche's life at the Moreau Community Center, 144 Main Street, South Glens Falls.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Moreau Community Center, P.O. Box 1456, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
Arrangements are under the direction of Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, NY.
