Biography

Niskayuna - Therese M. Hunt, 80, retired Catholic schoolteacher, passed peacefully Friday February 5th, 2010 at her daughter's home in Clifton Park after a long illness. Therese was the wife for 41 years of the late Patrick J. Hunt, former Associate Vice Chancellor of SUNY, who passed last May. She is survived by her beloved children Mary Alice of Clifton Park and Robert of Kissimmee, FL. Therese was the daughter of Robert and Jane Rolston, born in Greenwich Village, New York City to a large family of fourteen. She entered the Franciscan order as a Missionary Sister of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Peekskill, NY) in 1947 where she served faithfully and with love for Christ Crucified for 20 years. She received her Masters in Sociology at Catholic University of America in Washington DC. She left the Franciscan order in 1967 and worked as a Social Worker and later as a Catholic School Teacher in Washington DC, New Jersey, New York and Maryland for over 25 years, including locally at St. Pius X in Loudonville and St. Augustine's in Troy. She was a volunteer at the Teresian House and Glendale Nursing home and served in many Catholic ministries, including as Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the parishes of St. Luke's and St. Paul's in Schenectady. Her sisters-in-law Elinor Hunt and Elizabeth Rolston, brother Bernard (Pat), sister Bernice and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins survive her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:15am at Lights Funeral Home, 1428 State St., Schenectady followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 12 Noon at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 7 until 9 pm and on Wednesday from 9 until 11 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
Those who wish to donate in lieu of flowers may do so to the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 250 South Street, Peekskill NY or to Saratoga County Community Hospice and are asked to remember her in prayer.
