Roosevelt T. Miles
Schenectady - Roosevelt T. Miles, 78, of Schenectady, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, surrounded by his family.
Born in Richmond, VA on March 1, 1931, he was the son of the late Henry and Emma (nee: Bazley) Miles. His family moved to the Albany area when he was a child and he was raised and educated in the Albany school system. Roosevelt was a decorated veteran serving the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Scotia.
He was employed for many years by General Electric Co., as a press operator until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 1005 in Schenectady. He enjoyed many memberships with local bowling leagues and dining out. He will be remembered by his family as a generous, kindhearted man who was a lifelong supporter of many local and national charities.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by 2 brothers, Henry and Arthur Miles and a grandson, Raul Medina.
Survivors include his children, Kevin Miles of Richmond, IN, Cecil D. Miles of Seattle, WA, Rodger Miles of Schenectady, Sumiko Miles and Leona Miles of Philadelphia, PA and Kathy (Raul) Medina of Watertown, NY; his sister, Evelyn C. Stone of Rensselaer; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his beloved friend Rita Sparks and her daughter, Angela Boddoe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State St. Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
