Biography

Edna Brougham Ward, 94, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at the Community Hospice of Albany, St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. She was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Merwin and J. Edna Mulligan Brougham. Edna was a graduate of Russell Sage College, Albany and had worked for several firms and agencies in Albany. She was an administrative assistant in both the assembly and senate. From, 1978 -86 she was secretary of the Savings Bank Assoc. of New York and from 52 to 65 she owned and operated Edna's Card Shop and Gift Shop, Albany. During th same period she was office manager for Ainsworth and Sullivan in Albany. She had also been administrative assistant for Lt. Governor Mary Anne Krupsak for 13 years, retiring in 1978.
Edna was a member of the Zonta Club, member of the Albany Girls Club, Past President of the Board of the Downtown Day Care Center at the First Church in Albany, Reformed. Edna was a member for more than 60 years of the First Church in Albany, Reformed. The highlight of her life has been her Friday night pizza and scrabble.
During World War II she joined the U.S. Navy.
Edna is survived by cousins, William and Geraldine Walsh, David and Janice Stotler, Donald Arthur Walsh and James D. Walsh; dear friend of Kenneth and Joann Strube. She was predeceased by a dear friend Frances Werner.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday 11 AM February 6, 2010 at the First Church in Albany, Reformed, Pearl Street, Albany. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
