Biography

John J. "Rock" Liszewski, 79, passed away on Friday evening, January 29, 2010. Born in Yonkers, NY, on March 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Liszewski. He was raised and educated in Yonkers and attended St. Casimir's Grammar and High Schools. He continued his education at Iona College until the completion of his bachelor's degree. During the Korean Conflict, John proudly served with the U.S. Navy and continued enjoying his membership with the Blue Nose Fleet. He and his family moved to the local area in 1970. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia. John was an accountant for many years for various local automotive companies until is retirement. Rock was a proud and loving father and grandfather and centered his life on his family. Married on August 26, 1960, he was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Liszewski, who passed away in 2001. He was also predeceased by his grandson, Gary Christopher Smith. Survivors include his son, Gary (Teresa) Smith of Glenville; his daughter, Cynthia (John) Jordan of Rexford; his brother, Paul (Edie) Liszewski of Florida; his sister, Jean (Robert) Augustine of Florida; and three grandchildren, Margaret Smith, Lindsay Jordan and Olivia Jordan. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, First St., Scotia. Interment will take place at a later date in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 9 until 10 a.m. at the church, prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308. Arrangements are entrusted to The White Funeral Home, Scotia.
