Michael P. Nolan 62 of Queensbury passed away peacefully on Friday January 29, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 18, 1948 in Glens Falls the son of the late William and Lucille (Martin) Nolan.
Mike served in the Army National guard as a Medic.
He attended the University of Maine and graduated from the SUNY Albany, before joining the South High Faculty as an English teacher for 33 years at Oliver Winch Junior High School. He also coached boys and girls Basketball, cross country and track and field for many years. He had a profound impact on hundreds of students and inspired his family and friends with his, "No Excuses Do The Work, motto." He was very proud to be inducted into the Bulldog Pride Hall of Fame in Oct. 2009, and to have been chosen as a recipient of the 2009 South Glens Falls Marathon Dance, which was to support lung cancer.
Mike was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005 and turned that diagnosis and treatment into something positive. With the help of friends and family he started the organization, "Faith, Family and Friends, providing funds for Lung Cancer and Research, and support programs for cancer patients and their families.
His parents William and Lucille Nolan and his grandparents Helen and Charles Nolan predecease him.
Mike lost his parents at a young age. His Aunt Jeanne Nolan an amazing women of great character, dedicated her life to raising Mike and his sisters.
He is also survived by his wife of 39 years Kristine (Killian) Nolan of Queensbury his daughter Karianne Nolan Ryan and her husband Dan of Queensbury and his son Sean Michael Nolan also of Queensbury. He was "Bumpa" to his cherished grandchildren Mae, Maggie and Mack Ryan all of Queensbury; His treasured sister Patricia Nolan Shea who accompanied him on many trips to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and her husband Michael; His sister Linda Nolan Trasacco and her husband Barry of South Glens Falls, his loyal sisters and brothers in-law along with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins also survive him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday February 2, 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Saratoga Avenue South Glens Falls with Father Tony Childs and Father Tom Babiuch concelebrating. Burial will be private at St. Mary's Cemetery South Glens Falls.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 4:00 to 8:00Pm on Monday February 1, 2010 at Singleton and Healy Funeral Home 407 Bay Road Queensbury.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Faith, Family and Friends Scholarship fund to establish a memorial scholarship in honor of Mike Nolan for graduating student of South Glens Falls High School, maybe sent c/o Patricia Shea 73 Masters Common South, Queensbury, NY 12804.
Mike's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to High Peaks Hospice especially Kat and Carol, Dr. Aqeel Gillani, and Dr. Edward Kim of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for their wonderful care over the past 5 years.
